Our History

We take pride in our history. We have been serving the communities of Andover and the surrounding areas for over 50 years. What started out as a concerned group of parents whose children had a learning disability, has now turned into a charity which has over 7000 people access our community services.

1962 - 1964 – The Beginning - The Anton Companions

1964 – 1970 - ‘The Andover Society for Mentally Handicapped Children’ is Born

1970s – We become Andover and District Mencap

1980s – Developing Supported Living 

1988 – 2000 – Generous Legacies from the Local Community and Developing our Services

2000 – 2004 Expanding our Services

2004 – 2014 – The Wellington Centre and our 50th Anniversary
