Andover and District Mencap are currently seeking to recruit Centre Manager to oversee our community centre, The Wellington Centre, on Winchester Road in Andover.

About us:

The Wellington Centre is a busy community centre which provides a safe space for our members and the local community. From our Centre we run a variety of activities for adults and children with learning disabilities and also provide rooms to hire to external customers.

The Role:

As our Centre Manager you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of The Wellington Centre, managing usage from both internal and external customers and overseeing the general upkeep of the premises. Our Centre Assistant, who carries out front of house duties, will report directly to you along with a small team of Centre Volunteers who assist in the upkeep of the Centre.

The main responsibilities of your role will include:

  • Understanding and managing the available space within The Wellington Centre to allow for internal use by ADM and the hire of rooms to external customers.
  • Developing the profile of The Wellington Centre, with a view to maximising potential income from the letting of the Centre. Working on appropriate marketing and promotional material.
  • Review annually the cost of hiring the Centre and ensure ADM remains competitive in the market place.
  • Ensure that customers are invoiced correctly and promptly and deal with any issues as they arise.
  • To take the lead on any issues related to the upkeep of the building and its contents.
  • Ensuring the security of the building and the safety of its users at all times by completing risk assessments, undertaking regular Health and Safety checks and recording as required.
  • To lead on the practice of emergency evacuations within the building and ensure that staff and visitors are clearly instructed of what to do in the case of an emergency.

What you’ll need:

Flexibility of working hours is crucial for this role in order to meet the needs of the department. To be successful in this role you will have experience in facilities management or experience of managing a community setting. In addition to this you will need to have achieved or be willing to work towards the IOSH Managing Safely qualification.

Excellent communication skills are essential together with a good level of knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Excel, Word and Outlook.
